How to Download X Videos on Android (Chrome & Gallery Guide)

Download a public X video on Android with Chrome, find the saved MP4 in Files or Gallery, and fix the most common link and storage problems.

You can save a video from a public X post on Android without installing an unknown APK or signing in to a third-party service. Copy the post link in the X app, open a browser-based downloader in Chrome, choose an available MP4 quality, and save the file. The exact folder name varies by phone, so this guide also shows where Android puts the finished download.

Important: this workflow is for public posts that you are allowed to save. It cannot access private accounts, deleted posts, login-only media, or videos restricted by age or region.

1. Copy the correct X post link

Open the post that contains the video in the X Android app. Tap the share icon and choose Copy link. A usable link normally contains x.com and a path ending in /status/....

Copy the post URL rather than a temporary media address from the video player. Temporary CDN links can expire and may fail when opened outside the X app. If the video appears inside a quoted post, open the original post that owns the video before copying the link.

2. Open the downloader in Chrome

  1. Open Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet, or another current Android browser.
  2. Open the Downloader NX video tool.
  3. Paste the copied X post URL into the input field.
  4. Start the lookup and wait for the available video variants to appear.
  5. Choose the quality you need and download the MP4 file.

No X password or browser extension is required. If a site asks you to install an APK, enable accessibility access, or enter your X credentials just to process a public link, leave that site.

3. Choose the right video quality

X can store several versions of the same video. A higher-resolution variant looks better but uses more storage and mobile data. A lower-resolution variant is useful when you only need a quick reference copy or plan to share it through a messaging app that compresses video anyway.

  • Highest available quality: best for editing, archiving, or watching on a larger screen.
  • Medium quality: a practical balance for most Android phones.
  • Lower quality: faster on a slow connection and easier to share.

The downloader cannot create detail that is missing from the original upload. If the source post only provides a small version, selecting a larger label elsewhere will not restore lost quality.

4. Find the downloaded video on Android

Chrome normally saves the MP4 in the system Downloads folder. You can find it in any of these places:

  • Chrome: tap the three-dot menu, then Downloads.
  • Files by Google: open Downloads or select the Videos category.
  • Samsung My Files: open Downloads or Internal storage > Download.
  • Gallery or Google Photos: look in the Downloads album after Android finishes scanning the file.

If the MP4 appears in Files but not in Gallery, open the file once or move it from Downloads to the Movies folder. Gallery apps sometimes need a moment to index a new video.

5. Use the X share menu for a faster workflow

You do not need to switch back and forth repeatedly. Copy the link from X, open your browser from Android's recent-apps screen, paste it, and return to X when the download finishes. Some browsers also show a clipboard suggestion above the keyboard, which lets you paste the copied URL with one tap.

Avoid granting a website permission to read all clipboard history. A normal browser page only needs the single post URL that you paste into its input.

Why an X video download fails on Android

The post is not public

Open the link in an incognito tab where you are not signed in. If the post or video is unavailable there, a public downloader will not be able to retrieve it either.

The copied link points to the wrong post

Quoted posts and threads can make it easy to copy the surrounding post instead of the post that owns the video. Open the video, navigate to its original post, and copy that status URL.

Chrome opens the video instead of saving it

If the MP4 opens in a browser tab, use the browser menu or press and hold the video to choose the available download action. Browser behavior differs slightly between Chrome, Firefox, and manufacturer browsers.

Android reports insufficient storage

Check Settings > Storage, remove unneeded downloads, or choose a smaller video variant. Android may need additional temporary space while the browser completes a large file.

The download starts and then fails

Disable battery or data restrictions for the browser temporarily, keep the browser open until the transfer completes, and try a stable Wi-Fi connection. VPNs, private DNS filters, and aggressive ad blockers can also interrupt the media request.

Safety and copyright

Only download media you created, have permission to use, or may lawfully save for your intended purpose. Saving a public video does not transfer copyright and does not automatically permit reposting, selling, or removing attribution.
