X Spaces Recording Expired or Unavailable? What the Status Means
Learn why an X Space replay disappears, how to distinguish expiration from a temporary error, and which recovery options are legitimate.
You have an X Space link, but the replay no longer plays. A downloader reports that no public recording is available. Before trying more tools, identify which part of the chain is missing: the Space itself, the host's recording, anonymous access, or the underlying replay media.
No downloader can reconstruct audio that was never recorded or that X no longer serves. A good diagnostic process prevents wasted time and avoids risky requests for passwords or exported session cookies.
Five different meanings of “unavailable”
1. The Space is still live
Live audio is not the same as a replay. The host must enable recording and keep the result after the session ends. Check again later rather than trying to capture a partial or unstable live stream.
2. The host did not enable recording
Not every Space is recorded. If recording was disabled, listeners may have no replay even though the event page and social posts remain visible. Ask the host whether an official recording, transcript, podcast, or summary will be published.
3. The replay was deleted or expired
A host can remove a recording, and older replays can stop being publicly available. The Space URL may continue to resolve while its media formats disappear. This produces a confusing state where the title is known but there is no playable audio.
4. X requires a signed-in session
Some content is visible only after login because of account, region, age, or platform rules. Downloader NX intentionally supports anonymous public media and does not ask users to submit their password, verification code, or exported browser cookies.
5. The extractor is temporarily blocked
X changes its public responses and applies request limits. If several unrelated public Space links fail at once, the problem may be temporary. Wait and retry once later. Repeated rapid checks can make rate limiting worse.
How to diagnose the link safely
- Open the Space in a private browser window where you are not signed in.
- Confirm that the URL contains
/i/spaces/and is not only a post about the event. - Use the replay checker to distinguish live, scheduled, recorded, and unavailable states.
- If one link fails, test another known public replay rather than repeatedly submitting the same address.
- If you are the host, check your X account archive and original recording controls.
Legitimate recovery options
Ask the host. The speaker may have saved a local copy, requested an account archive, or republished the conversation elsewhere.
Check an official podcast or video channel. Many hosts reuse Spaces as podcast episodes, YouTube videos, newsletters, or written summaries. Prefer the creator's own publication over unverified mirrors.
Use your own archive. If you hosted the Space, use the data export and recording options provided by X. A host archive is more reliable than scraping a public listener page after the replay disappears.
Use notes captured during the event. Participant notes, approved transcripts, and shared slides may preserve the useful information even when the original audio is gone.
What not to do
- Do not pay a site that promises to recover any deleted Space without evidence.
- Do not provide an X password, one-time code, backup code, or full browser cookie export.
- Do not assume an unofficial mirror has permission to redistribute the speakers' audio.
- Do not hammer the same endpoint with automated requests after a clear unavailable result.
Prevent the problem next time
If you host important Spaces, enable recording before the event, keep a separate local or account-archive copy, publish a transcript, and document speaker consent. If you are a listener with permission to archive a replay, save it while it remains public and record the title, host, date, and source URL alongside the audio.
